Baseball Recap: Gateway Has No Trouble Against Lake Buena Vista

Gateway was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Lake Buena Vista on Tuesday. The Gateway Panthers put the hurt on the Lake Buena Vista Vipers with a sharp 12-4 win. Considering the Panthers have won four games by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Adrian Just was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. Just was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Diego Vazqueztell was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He has become a key player for Gateway: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Eddie Lopez, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Gateway always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They are 3-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Gateway now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Lake Buena Vista, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.

Coming up, Gateway will face off against Wekiva at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lake Buena Vista, they will welcome Legacy Charter at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lake Buena Vista has given up an average of 7.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
