Softball Recap: Lafayette Central Catholic Takes a Loss

Lafayette Central Catholic extended their losing streak to eight on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 1-11 in the process. They came up short against the Benton Central Bison, falling 12-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bison this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-7 back in April.

Lafayette Central Catholic saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abby McCaw, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run.

As for Benton Central, their record now sits at 5-8. They not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since May 13, 2024 (when they won 10-0).

On Benton Central's side, Reagan Dowell spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up six Ks. Dowell has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mariyah Rich, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Madison Minniear, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

Coming up, Lafayette Central Catholic will be playing in front of their home fans against Rensselaer Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Benton Central, they will take on West Lafayette at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bison's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Red Devils have averaged an impressive 9.7 runs per game this season.
