Basketball Recap: Mt. Vernon Rams vs. Taylorville Tornadoes

If the Mt. Vernon Rams were riding high off their 83-36 takedown of the Marion Wildcats last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Mt. Vernon's rough 62-38 defeat to the Tornadoes on Saturday might stick with them for a while. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Mt. Vernon has scored all season.

Mt. Vernon's loss came despite strong showings from Kamaree Pollard and Tiara Johnson. Pollard scored 23 points along with six rebounds and three steals, while Johnson scored seven points along with 36 rebounds and five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Pollard has scored all season.

Mt. Vernon's defeat dropped their record down to 23-6. As for Taylorville, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 23-6 record this season.

Mt. Vernon will be playing in front of their home fans against the Patriots at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Massac County is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road. As for Taylorville, they will square off against the Braves at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mt. Zion will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 127th, while the Tornadoes are ranked 48th).
