Basketball Recap: Carterville Takes a Loss

Carterville was the 67-46 winner over DuQuoin when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Carterville Lions fell to the DuQuoin Indians 40-34. While the Lions didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Indians 11-7 in the first quarter.

When it comes to explaining why Carterville lost on Thursday, don't look at Emma Rogers. Despite the final result, she posted 17 points.

Even though they lost, Carterville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in six consecutive contests.

Carterville has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season. As for DuQuoin, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-9.

Carterville wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 46-28 loss against Pinckneyville on the 20th. As for DuQuoin, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 70-66 victory against Trico on the 18th.
