Baseball Recap: Staunton Victorious

Staunton's game last Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They put the hurt on the Metro-East Lutheran Knights with a sharp 10-2 win. This was payback for the Bulldogs, who suffered a 6-3 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Matthew Overby spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Reese Bohlen was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Aiden Saracco was another key player, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4.

Staunton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Metro-East Lutheran only posted an OBP of .333.

Staunton's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Metro-East Lutheran, their loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-1.

Looking ahead, Staunton will host Lincolnwood at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Metro-East Lutheran, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 22-3 win against Cahokia on the 22nd.
