Baseball Recap: Greensburg Comes Up Short

Greensburg fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Batesville on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 4-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-3 back in April.

Chase Tekulve spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on nine hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Cy Miller was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Ethan Smith was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

This is the second loss in a row for Greensburg and nudges their season record down to 14-6. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 8 runs in those games. As for Batesville, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season.

Greensburg will take on North Decatur at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Chargers will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Pirates surely won't give up without a fight. As for Batesville, they will face off against Franklin County at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
