Basketball Game Preview: St. Thomas Academy Cadets vs. North Polars

St. Thomas Academy and North are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The St. Thomas Academy Cadets will face off against the North Polars at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

St. Thomas Academy took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They came out on top against South St. Paul by a score of 64-56. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Cadets as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, North waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Spartans as they made off with a 61-41 victory. Given the Polars' advantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while the Spartans are ranked 301st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

North's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-5. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.2 points per game. As for St. Thomas Academy, they now have a winning record of 9-8.

St. Thomas Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over North in their previous meeting back in January, winning 59-50. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. Thomas Academy since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
