Softball Recap: Deer Isle-Stonington Takes a Loss

Deer Isle-Stonington started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Bangor Christian. They came up short against the Patriots on Wednesday, falling 12-2. The Mariners were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2019.

Naomi Duke made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games she's played. Lexie Smith also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for Deer Isle-Stonington and nudges their season record down to 2-6. As for Bangor Christian, they moved to 4-5 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Looking ahead, Bangor Christian will take on Machias at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Patriots surely won't give up without a fight. Deer Isle-Stonington will be paying especially close attention to Bangor Christian's game: after Bangor Christian faces off against Machias, they'll take on Deer Isle-Stonington again at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
