Manteca had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They skirted past the Elk Grove Thundering Herd 63-61. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Buffaloes have posted against the Thundering Herd since December 16, 2017.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Manteca to victory, but perhaps none more so than Rehan Awan, who shot 67% from the field on his way to 21 points and eight boards. Another player making a difference was Antonio Fraley, who posted 13 points in addition to eight assists and three steals.

Manteca was working as a unit and finished the game with 25 assists. They racked up 12 more assists than Elk Grove's also-impressive total of 13.

Elk Grove lost on Friday despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Mathias MacPhail, who went 8-for-16 to rack up 21 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Josh Wilks was another key player, shooting 67% from the field en route to 14 points.

Looking ahead, Manteca will take on Lodi at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Elk Grove, they will square off against Turlock at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
