Recap: HEARTS for Jesus Christ Guardians vs. Varsity Opponent
The HEARTS for Jesus Christ Guardians came tearing into Tuesday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 34-16 win over Varsity Opponent. That result was just more of the same for these two, as HEARTS for Jesus Christ also won the last time the pair played two weeks ago.
Maria Cottenden was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Alex Zelenka, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
HEARTS for Jesus Christ pushed their record up to 8-1 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Varsity Opponent, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost ten of their last 12 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 49-182-3 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. HEARTS for Jesus Christ will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Christian Community at 6:30 p.m. on January 12, 2024. As for Varsity Opponent, they will head out on the road to face off against Mooresville Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mooresville Christian is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
