Baseball Recap: Crown Point Gets the Win

While Crown Point's win against Portage wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bulldogs won by a run and slipped past the Indians 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bulldogs have posted since April 7th.

Logan Johnston spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on one hit and racked up 13 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Crown Point got a big performance out of Caden Matusak, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave Matusak a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nathan Sheets, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases.

Crown Point's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-1. As for Portage, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-4 record this season.

Crown Point will have a chance to go back-to-back against Portage: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
