Mesa Vista extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 1-12 in the process. They came up short against the McCurdy Bobcats, falling 23-7. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

As for McCurdy, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games.

For McCurdy's part, Ryan Valdez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up six earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave Valdez a new career-high. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Carlos Garcia was a standout: he went a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of McCurdy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-5 when he doesn't). Ethan Bolton was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs and two stolen bases.

While Mesa Vista had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
