Football Recap: Kevin Alaniz's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Sharyland over Mission Veterans Memorial

Sharyland dropped to 4-3 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell 28-16 to the Mission Veterans Memorial Patriots. The Rattlers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Sharyland lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Kevin Alaniz, who rushed for 118 yards and one score. Abram Carrasco also helped out with an impressive 87 receiving yards.

Even if they lost, Sharyland's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Ezekiel Garza was especially locked on to Mission Veterans Memorial's QB and sacked him twice. Another thorn in the Patriots' side was Leonardo Trujillo, who picked up a sack and made seven total tackles (2.0 for loss).

As for Mission Veterans Memorial, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 36.0 points over those games.

Mission Veterans Memorial found their leader in sophomore Roman Reyna, who rushed for 134 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 carries, and also threw for 233 yards and one TD.

Coincidentally, Sharyland and Mission Veterans Memorial will both be playing Alice the next time they take the field. The Rattlers will host the Coyotes at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Patriots will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th.
