Softball Recap: Austin Gets the Win

Austin took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Albert Lea, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Packers had just enough and edged out the Tigers 3-2. For the Packers, this counts as revenge for the 11-1 win the Tigers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Kaydence Schaefer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Quinn Osgood and Alexis Brede did most of the damage at the plate: Osgood went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base, while Brede went 1-for-2 with one triple and two RBI. That triple marked the first that Brede has hit this season.

Austin now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Albert Lea, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Looking ahead, Austin will welcome John Marshall at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Packers are facing the Rockets at the right time seeing as the Rockets are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Albert Lea, they will head out on the road to take on Faribault at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Falcons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
