Basketball Recap: Abrianna Chianelli's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Rye over Buena Vista

Rye lost against Buena Vista back in January of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Rye Thunderbolts lost 53-27 to the Buena Vista Demons. The Thunderbolts just can't catch a break and have now endured four losses in a row.

Several Thunderbolts players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Abrianna Chianelli, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and ten rebounds. Nicoline Larson was another key player, putting up three points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Rye smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive matchups.

Daisy Lubbers was a one-woman wrecking crew for Buena Vista as she dropped a double-double with 13 points and 15 boards. The dominant performance also gave Lubbers a new career-high in blocks (eight). Another player making a difference was Bridget Dawson, who en route to 11 points and seven rebounds.

Rye's defeat dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Buena Vista, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-9 record this season.

Rye wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 56-39 victory against James Irwin on the 17th. As for Buena Vista, they have also already played their next matchup, a 45-36 win against Banning Lewis Academy on the 17th.
