Baseball Recap: Channel Islands Sets Scoring Season-High Against Nordhoff

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Channel Islands). They put the hurt on the Nordhoff Rangers with a sharp 13-2 victory on Monday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Raiders needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Gabriel Garcia was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed six innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Javier Castillo, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that he snagged this season. Antonio Carrillo was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Channel Islands always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .590. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win snapped Channel Islands' losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-6 record. As for Nordhoff, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-5.

Looking ahead, Channel Islands will head out on the road to square off against Santa Paula at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Nordhoff, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Malibu at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
