Baseball Recap: Waterloo Comes Up Short

Waterloo had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 2-6 to make it four. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Newark Reds. If the Tigers were looking for revenge after losing 10-0 to the Reds when the teams met back in April of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Newark, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.

For Newark's part, Cody Forjone made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 12 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. That's the most strikeouts Forjone has posted since back in April of 2025. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting three hits from his three at bats.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ricky Orlopp, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Waterloo will host Midlakes at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Newark, they will be playing at home against Palmyra-Macedon at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Reds' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Red Raiders have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season.
