5A Front Range recap Oct. 9, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Rocky Mountain, who took down 88th ranked Rocky Mountain, 49-10. Travis Avila threw for 235 yards and one touchdown and ran for 98 yards in the win.
Fort Collins and Mountain Range played the most hotly contested game in 5A Front Range this week, with Fort Collins eventually emerging with a 3-0 victory. Caleb Seeton threw for 18 yards and ran for 43 yards in the win.
Corey Peter was the best wideout in the league this week as Fossil Ridge bested the Lobos. Peter racked up two receptions for 89 yards. Ben Madrick helped Fossil Ridge's passing attack out by catching five balls for 39 yards.
Dante Chand was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 10 carries, he ran for 109 yards as Horizon defeated Rocky Mountain. Teammate Bryce Killmon added to the ground attack by rushing for 62 yards.
5-foot-10 quarterback Avila of Fossil Ridge is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1168. He has also thrown seven touchdowns. On the ground, the Mustangs' Gabe Gellespie has rushed for 499 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Dustin Rivas. The Horizon star has 27 catches for 622 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Alisa Dancer's team takes on the Hawks. As it stands, the Lobos are in fourth, while Horizon is in first.
Steve Vecchio's team led the league in scoring this week after putting up 49 points on Rocky Mountain. Avila in the win.
