Basketball Recap: New York Mills Beats Staples-Motley for Their Ninth Straight Win

New York Mills had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 34 points) and they went ahead and made it nine on Tuesday. They breezed by the Staples-Motley Cardinals to the tune of 80-48. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 147th, while the Cardinals are ranked 309th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

New York Mills has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.4 points per game. As for Staples-Motley, their loss was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 4-17.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New York Mills will face off against Pillager at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pillager has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Staples-Motley has already played their next contest (against Barnesville), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
