Basketball Game Preview: Simmons Blue Devils vs. Shaw Warriors

The Simmons Blue Devils will square off against the Shaw Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Simmons' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three matches.

Last Tuesday, Simmons was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 66-61 to West Tallahatchie. The Blue Devils have struggled against the Choctaws recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Meanwhile, Shaw had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.2 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Wednesday. They walked away with a 49-37 win over the Cubs. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 135th, while the Cubs are ranked 281st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Shaw pushed their record up to 9-8 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.6 points per game. As for Simmons, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-13.

Things could have been worse for Simmons, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 79-60 loss to Shaw when the teams last played back in December of 2024.
