Baseball Recap: King's Luck Changes for the Better on Tuesday

King had to endure a seven-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 7-2 win over the Carroll Tigers on Tuesday. The game was the first time the Mustangs have beaten the Tigers on their field since March 3, 2022.

Grant Hoogland made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. King is 2-1 when Hoogland allows two or fewer hits, but 4-16-1 otherwise. Hoogland was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Justin Lytle, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3. He is becoming a predictor of King's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 4-16-1 when he doesn't). Kody Westbrook also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.

King always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.

King's victory bumped their record up to 6-17-1. As for Carroll, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-20.
