Softball Recap: Morgan Township Comes Up Short

Morgan Township had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 4-7 to make it four. They came up short against the Boone Grove Wolves, falling 12-2. The Cherokees were not able to make up for their defeat to the Wolves from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

As for Boone Grove, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games.

For Boone Grove's part, Jordyn Botma was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Botma was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mercedes Szakacs, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Olivia Treece, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Looking ahead, Morgan Township will be playing at home against Whiting at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Boone Grove, they are taking a road trip to face off against Washington Township at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
