Softball Game Preview: Countryside Christian Minutemen vs. Bell Bulldogs

The Countryside Christian Minutemen will face off against the Bell Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Countryside Christian has given up an average of 8.7 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Countryside Christian came up short against Riverside Christian on Thursday, falling 14-5.

Riley Keith made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole four bases while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Vanessa Colon, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Even though they lost, Countryside Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in eight consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Bell was able to grind out a solid victory over Lafayette on Thursday, taking the game 8-3.

Alaina Thomas was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Thomas was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

Thomas wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mayzie Carpenter, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-4. Jodi Waddle was another, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Bell's win bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Countryside Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.

Countryside Christian might still be hurting after the 13-1 loss they got from Bell in their previous meeting back in March of 2016. Can Countryside Christian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
