Basketball Game Preview: Churchill County Greenwave vs. Wooster Colts

The Churchill County Greenwave and the Wooster Colts will face off at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Churchill County has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with three straight defeats, while Wooster will come in with three straight victories.

Churchill County will face Wooster after dropping another heartbreaker against Lowry on Friday, which marked the second time in a row the team's come within 3.1 of beating them. Churchill County might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 65-63 to Lowry, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

Churchill County's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Calin Anderson, who went 7 of 13 en route to 26 points and seven rebounds, and Barry Mitchell, who almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine boards. Those 22 points gave Mitchell a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Edgmon, who posted six points.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wooster). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Truckee 70-34. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Colts have posted since January 26, 2024.

Wooster's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-11. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points per game. As for Churchill County, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-7.

Churchill County beat Wooster 58-51 when the teams last played back in December of 2023. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Wooster's Jared Marquicias, who went 8 of 16 on his way to 25 points. Now that he won't be playing on Saturday, will it be easier for Churchill County to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
