Baseball Recap: Germantown Snaps Four-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Germantown's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Greenville Spartans, sneaking past 9-7. This was a revenge game for the Clippers: when they faced off against the Spartans back in April, they had to take a 18-13 loss.

Jayden Orozco made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up six earned runs off eight hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brian Gardner, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was David Cruz, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Germantown's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-14. As for Greenville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season.

Germantown does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Greenville, they are taking a road trip to challenge Cairo-Durham at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Mustangs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.06 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of.
