Softball Game Preview: American Patriots vs. Miami Springs Golden Hawks

The American Patriots will square off against the Miami Springs Golden Hawks at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (American has three straight wins, Miami Springs has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Last Thursday, American earned an 8-3 victory over Ferguson.

Jamerikal Darden made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one triple.

American hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive games.

Miami Springs might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 16-1 to Miami Beach, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

Khrystine Gil made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run.

Miami Springs' loss dropped their record down to 2-10. As for American, their win bumped their record up to 11-5.

Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. American has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .503. However, it's not like Miami Springs struggles in that department as they've averaged .474. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
