Basketball Recap: Desert Oasis Piles Up the Points Against Las Vegas

Desert Oasis won the last time they faced Las Vegas and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Desert Oasis Diamondbacks blew past the Las Vegas Wildcats 59-23. The Diamondbacks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 20 points or more this season.

Desert Oasis got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jasmine Bermudez out in front who went 5 for 9 en route to 11 points and eight steals. Those eight steals gave Bermudez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Atkins-Dowd, who went 6 of 13 on her way to 13 points along with five boards and four steals.

Desert Oasis was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Las Vegas only posted three assists.

Despite the loss, Las Vegas saw an underclassman step up: freshman Sariyah Johnson dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds. That was a full 60.9% of Las Vegas' points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.

Desert Oasis' win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-9. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.3 points per game. As for Las Vegas, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-17 record this season.

Desert Oasis will host Centennial at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Centennial will roll in looking for their 11th straight victory, something Desert Oasis surely won't give up without a fight. As for Las Vegas, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Las Vegas Wildcats challenge the Desert Pines Jaguars at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Desert Pines is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.8 points per game this season.
