Monday's championship game to feature Bishop McNamara vs. Long Island Lutheran.
The championship pairing is a rematch of a game played less than two weeks ago when Long Island Lutheran beat Bishop McNamara 63-56 at the St. James Invitational.
Archbishop Mitty was looking for its third straight trip to the tournament final but cold shooting from the free throw line — 16 of 28 — and 19 points from sophomore guard
Jaylah King thwarted those plans.
Bishop McNamara closed the third quarter on a 16-10 run to build a 37-32 lead. King had 10 in the period while Mitty went 5 of 12 from the line.
Archbishop Mitty narrowed the lead to one a couple of times late in the fourth quarter but couldn't complete the comeback.
Qandace Samuels joined King as Bishop McNamara's top scorer with 19.
In the second semifinal, Long Island Lutheran jumped out to leads of 15-8 after one and 37-24 at intermission. The Crusaders are looking for their second event title after winning in 2022.
Bullis got hot after the break as sophomore
Dahlia Debourou knocked down a 3-pointer and then a bucket to cut the lead to 44-33. The Bulldogs had a chance to cut the lead to single digits toward the end of the third period, but missed a pair of shots as the Crusaders countered with a fast break bucket from
Bridget O'Hara to take a 51-38 edge into the final quarter.
From there, Long Island Lutheran raced out to a 12-1 start over the first four minutes of the final period to put the game out of reach.
