Baseball Game Preview: Hilliard Darby Panthers vs. Bowling Green Purples

The Hilliard Darby Panthers are headed away from home for the first time to take on the Bowling Green Purples at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Hilliard Darby is headed out to face Bowling Green after opening their season at home and giving their fans just what they were looking for. Hilliard Darby came out on top against Dublin Coffman by a score of 6-1 on Saturday.

Caleb Boff made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kade Romine, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. Josh Bowzer was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bowling Green). Everything went their way against Warren East on Friday as Bowling Green made off with a 19-12 win. The victory continues a trend for the Purples in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now won four in a row.

Bowling Green got a massive performance out of Drew Isenberg, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that Isenberg launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Schallert, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Bowling Green was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Hilliard Darby suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Bowling Green in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Hilliard Darby avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
