Renton is 2-8 against Evergreen since March of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Red Hawks will head out on the road to challenge the Wolverines at 4:00 p.m.
Renton is headed into Thursday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 19th straight game dating back to last season on Monday. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Highline.
Elias Buchan put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Buchan was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases.
Buchan wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was David Thor, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Evergreen had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They blew past the Titans 12-2. Considering the Wolverines have won five contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Quinn Wiler, who scored three runs and stole seven bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Quincy Eastman was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Evergreen always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .793. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Renton's defeat dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Evergreen, their record is now 8-2.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Renton has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .459. However, it's not like Evergreen struggles in that department as they've averaged .568. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Renton came up short against Evergreen when the teams last played back in March, falling 7-2. Can the Red Hawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
