Needles is a perfect 10-0 against Lake Mead Christian Academy since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Mustangs will square off against the Eagles at 1:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Needles has nine straight victories, Lake Mead Christian Academy has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Needles and Williams meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Monday. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 15-3 margin over the Vikings. Considering the Mustangs have won nine matches by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Audrina Bullchild made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Scotti Powell was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Liana DeLeon, who went 3-for-5 with one triple, one run, and one double.
Needles was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Lake Mead Christian Academy fell victim to Lincoln County and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 18-0 to the Lynx.
Needles' win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Lake Mead Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.
Needles took their win against Lake Mead Christian Academy in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
