Basketball Game Preview: Turner Golden Bears vs. Tonganoxie Chieftains

The Turner Golden Bears will head out on the road to face off against the Tonganoxie Chieftains at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Turner has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Having struggled with eight losses in a row, Turner turned things around against Harmon on Tuesday. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 68-29 win over the Hawks. With that victory, the Golden Bears brought their scoring average up to 51 points per game.

Turner's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tyland Mcgee, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Mcgee is crushing it when it comes to boards: he's pulled down at least nine every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mekhi Follick, who went 5 of 10 en route to 15 points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, Tonganoxie was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a hard 57-40 fall against Baldwin. While losing is never fun, the Chieftains can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 219th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 22nd).

Tonganoxie's loss dropped their record down to 3-9-1. As for Turner, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-9.

Turner couldn't quite finish off Tonganoxie in their previous matchup back in January of 2024 and fell 43-40. Can Turner avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
