Softball Game Preview: Monmouth Academy Mustangs vs. Maine Central Institute Huskies

The Monmouth Academy Mustangs are taking a road trip to challenge the Maine Central Institute Huskies at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Monmouth Academy is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

Monmouth Academy is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maine's top teams: St. Dominic, who was ranked 25th at the time (Monmouth Academy was ranked ninth). The Mustangs walked away with a 10-7 victory over the Saints on Monday.

Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Maine Central Institute's offense. They fell just short of Hall-Dale by a score of 2-0 on Monday. The loss put an end to the Huskies' undefeated start to the season.

Monmouth Academy's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-0. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Maine Central Institute, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Everything went Monmouth Academy's way against Maine Central Institute when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Monmouth Academy made off with a 12-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
