Baseball Recap: Chatham's Undefeated Season over After Five Games

After flying high against Cairo-Durham on Tuesday, Chatham came back down to earth. The Panthers fell just short of the Ichabod Crane Riders by a score of 8-7 on Wednesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 9-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Logan Smalley was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Jacob Carroll was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Owen Wilber was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Having lost for the first time this season, Chatham fell to 4-1. As for Ichabod Crane, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Chatham has already played their next contest, a 12-5 loss against North Rockland on the 19th. As for Ichabod Crane, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 9-7 victory against Niskayuna on the 18th.
