Russell had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They managed a 49-45 victory over the Rowan County Vikings on Saturday. This was payback for the Red Devils, who suffered a 78-53 loss the last time these two teams met.

Russell found their leader in sophomore Ryder Burgess, who shot 50% from the field to rack up 23 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabe Pridemore, who almost dropped a double-double with ten points and nine rebounds.

Rowan County now has a losing record of 1-2.

Russell wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 76-47 win against East Carter on the 9th. As for Rowan County, they have also already played their next contest, a 57-53 defeat against Greenup County on the 9th.
