Softball Recap: Santa Clara Starts Season with Victory at Home

Santa Clara took care of business in their home opener on Monday. They never let the Fillmore Flashes onto the board and left with a 5-0 victory. This was payback for the Saints, who suffered a 9-2 loss the last time these two teams met.

Kadyn Sanchez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. What's more, she also gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in March of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sophia Romero, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Santa Clara has already played their next matchup, a 6-0 win against Hueneme on the 19th. As for Fillmore, they will be taking part in a tournament against St. Bonaventure at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
