Basketball Recap: Vanguard Academy Beethoven Now 6-2 over Last Eight Games

If Monte Alto wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Vanguard Academy Beethoven, they should've done a better job of containing Erik Cantu. Vanguard Academy Beethoven put the hurt on the Monte Alto Blue Devil with a sharp 69-45 victory on Tuesday thanks in part to Cantu, who went 11 for 20 en route to 31 points and six rebounds. Those 31 points gave him a new career-high.

The team also got some help courtesy of Yandel Rosell, who posted 14 points and six boards. He has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 12 times he's played.

Monte Alto lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ramiro Vazquez, who went 7 of 16 on his way to 14 points. Another player making a difference was Ricky Serrano, who earned 15 points along with six rebounds and four steals.

Vanguard Academy Beethoven is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.5 points per game. As for Monte Alto, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-14.

Vanguard Academy Beethoven will square off against IDEA North Mission at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Monte Alto, they will venture away from home to take on IDEA College Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
