Baseball Recap: Santa Ana Takes a Loss

Santa Ana had lost five straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 8-11-1 to make it six. They fell just short of the La Serna Lancers by a score of 1-0. The shutout was out of character for the Saints seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in March.

As for La Serna, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games.

For La Serna's part, Logan Thomas made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Thomas has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

Thomas wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Luther Sullens, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Coming up, Santa Ana will be playing in front of their home fans against Garden Grove at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for La Serna, they will head out to take on Los Altos at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.
