Basketball Recap: Tempe Comes Up Short

Tempe lost against Dysart back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Tempe Buffaloes took a 62-46 bruising from the Dysart Demons.

When it comes to explaining why Tempe lost, don't look at Arthur Murphy. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards. Murphy is becoming a predictor of Tempe's success: when he posts at least eight boards the team is 4-1 (and 4-6 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah Criss, who posted 12 points.

Dysart got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lamar Anderson out in front who went 8 of 18 on his way to 17 points and six assists. Anderson is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Santiago Leyva, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 16 rebounds.

Tempe's defeat dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Dysart, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.

Tempe will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Cortez at 7:00 p.m. Tempe is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.2 points per game this season. As for Dysart, they will head out to face off against Desert Sunrise at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Dysart also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 59.5 points per game.
