Basketball Recap: Torrington Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Buffalo

On Saturday, Torrington faced Buffalo in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Torrington Trailblazers lost to the Buffalo Bison at home by a 57-40 margin. The Trailblazers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Bison from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Several Trailblazers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mac Hibben, who posted 11 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Weston Dyer, who went 5 of 10 to rack up 12 points.

It was another big night for Brady Engling, who went 5 for 12 en route to 17 points along with seven boards and four blocks for Buffalo. Engling has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. Cortlan Smith was another key player, going 6 of 11 on his way to 13 points.

Torrington now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Buffalo, their victory bumped their record up to 9-6.

Looking ahead, Torrington will square off against Bridgeport at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bridgeport knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Torrington likes a good challenge. As for Buffalo, they will head out to challenge Burns at 5:30 p.m. on February 15th.
