The Pine View Panthers will square off against the Snow Canyon Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Pine View is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.2 points per game this season.
Last Friday, Pine View came up short against Crimson Cliffs and fell 58-48. The defeat continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now lost four in a row.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jelani Odjegba, who almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Adam Moore, who posted 15 points.
Even though they lost, Pine View smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 25-25 at halftime, Snow Canyon was not quite Hurricane's equal in the second half on Friday. They fell 61-54 to the Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while the Tigers are ranked 33rd).
The match pitted two dominant guards against one another in Reggie Mackay and Brigham Kemp. Kemp had a solid game and earned 13 points along with six boards and three steals. Meanwhile, Mackay did his best for the losing side, putting up 17 points.
Pine View's loss dropped their record down to 15-8. As for Snow Canyon, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 5-18 record this season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Pine View has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 26.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Snow Canyon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24.1 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Pine View strolled past Snow Canyon when the teams last played two weeks ago by a score of 60-43. Will Pine View repeat their success, or does Snow Canyon have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
