2019 MaxPreps national high school underclass softball All-Americans

A junior pitcher who guided her team to an unbeaten season joins a base-stealing specialist freshman and a sophomore who is lucky to be alive as the 2019 MaxPreps National Underclass Players of the Year.

Junior Nicole May, a 2019 MaxPreps All-American, led Foothill (Pleasanton, Calif.) to the North Coast Section Division 1 championship, an unbeaten (28-0) season and a No. 2 MaxPreps national ranking.

The Oklahoma commit  and National Junior Player of the Year was 24-0 with a 0.32 ERA and tossed 14 shutouts. She struck out 246 batters and batted .463. In the section championship, she pitched a one-hitter, struck out 13 and homered.



Outfielder Chloe Baynes led Tallassee (Ala.) to its most wins in a season (44) when she collected 117 base hits, stole 82 bases and scored 90 runs en route to being named MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year.

She hit .699 and averaged better than two base hits per game as Tigers went 44-9 and had the school's deepest ever playoff run. Before being thrown out attempting to steal third, Baynes had a streak of 115 consecutive stolen bases.

In August 2016, Madi Ogden of Williamsburg (Ohio) was a passenger in a car accident that required a 22-day hospital stay and three brain surgeries. Doctors wondered if she would live. Later, they wondered if she would walk or run again.
