Basketball Recap: Liberty Falls Despite Big Games from Jerimiah Washpun and Maddoc Coapstick

Liberty was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss. They took a hard 70-51 fall against the Iowa City Little Hawks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lightning this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 59-53 back in December of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Liberty had strong showings from Maddoc Coapstick, who posted ten points, and Jerimiah Washpun, who scored 18 points. Washpun's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Chase Goodheart, who earned nine points.

Even though they lost, Liberty smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive matches.

Liberty's loss dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Iowa City, their win bumped their record up to 6-22.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Ankeny the next time they take the court. Iowa City will head out to face Ankeny on Saturday, while Liberty will play them later in the day, at 7:30 p.m.
