Basketball Preview: Woodruff Wolverines vs. Union County Yellowjackets

Woodruff is 9-1 against the Yellowjackets since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Woodruff Wolverines will stay at home for another game and welcome the Union County Yellowjackets at 6:15 p.m. on February 6th. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Woodruff struggled with offensive rebounds on Friday (the Centurions had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Woodruff fell to the Centurions 50-46.

Woodruff might have lost, but man, Sadie Burnette was a machine: she scored 25 points along with five rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Burnette has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jaylen Means, who scored six points along with five rebounds and four steals.

Meanwhile, Union County's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their 14th straight defeat. They were dealt a 56-23 loss at the hands of Emerald. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Union County in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now lost nine in a row.

Woodruff's defeat dropped their record down to 9-13. As for Union County, they dropped their record down to 2-18 with that loss, which was their ninth straight on the road.

Everything came up roses for Woodruff against the Yellowjackets when the teams last played back in January as the squad secured a 52-19 victory. With Woodruff ahead 34-8 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
