Soccer Game Preview: Hazelwood East vs. Wright City

Hazelwood East is 0-4 against Wright City since April of 2021 but things could change on Monday. The Spartans will host the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Hazelwood East hadn't beaten STEAM Academy at McCluer South Berkeley on the road since April 9, 2019 but that history sure didn't bother them on Thursday. The Spartans blew past the Bulldogs 6-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for Hazelwood East.

Meanwhile, Wright City kept a clean sheet against Battle on Friday. They put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 5-0 victory. Given Wright City's advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri soccer rankings (they are ranked 90th, while Battle are ranked 211th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hazelwood East now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Wright City, their win bumped their record up to 13-4.

Hazelwood East might still be hurting after the 8-0 loss they got from Wright City when the teams last played back in March. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
