Basketball Recap: Jefferson Takes a Loss

Jefferson lost against Burbank back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Jefferson Mustangs took a blow against the Burbank Bulldogs, falling 85-39. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1052nd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 387th).

Burbank's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zara?Nique Nealy led the charge by dropping a double-double on 28 points and ten rebounds. Nealy's evening made it nine games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nyila Botello, who went 10 of 21 en route to 25 points and seven steals.

Jefferson has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-22 record this season. As for Burbank, their win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 21-12.

Jefferson does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Burbank, they will face off against McCollum at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Burbank knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 18 games -- so hopefully McCollum likes a good challenge.
