Preview: Manitou Springs Mustangs vs. Alamosa Mean Moose
The Manitou Springs Mustangs are on the road again on Tuesday and plays the Alamosa Mean Moose at 6:00 p.m. on February 13th. Alamosa took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Manitou Springs, who comes in off a win.
Last Friday, Manitou Springs got the win against Rye by a conclusive 40-19. The victory was just what Manitou Springs needed coming off of a 56-20 defeat in their prior match.
Manitou Springs relied on the efforts of Brooklynn Sheffield, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds, and Tori Greene, who scored 12 points along with five steals. Sheffield is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Cassidy Blechman, who scored five points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Meanwhile, Alamosa's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight defeat. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 53-28 walloping at the hands of Montrose. While losing is never fun, Alamosa can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 134th, while Montrose is ranked 47th).
Manitou Springs' victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-12. As for Alamosa, they have not been sharp recently as the team has lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-10 record this season.
Things could have been worse for Manitou Springs, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 38-23 loss to Alamosa in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Can Manitou Springs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
