Crowley County had lost three straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 10-9 to make it four. They came up short against the Fowler Grizzlies, falling 12-5. Surprisingly, this marked the Chargers' sixth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Tritt Buhr put in work no matter where he played. He pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Derreck Buford was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and one double.
As for Fowler, the win was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games.
Like Crowley County, Fowler also got a great game from a two-way player: Weston Johnson. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Johnson has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, Fowler let Hagen McCuistion and Isaiah Montoya run wild. McCuistion went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Montoya went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Montoya has posted since back in May of 2024. Nicolas Higgs was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Crowley County will face off against Byers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Fowler, they will take on Peyton at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something the Grizzlies surely won't give up without a fight.
