Football Recap: South Salem Takes a Loss

South Salem was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against the South Medford Panthers, falling 33-13. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Saxons of the 30-20 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why South Salem lost, don't look at Wongani Schlegel. Despite the final result, he picked up 104 receiving yards, and also rushed for 47 yards. Schlegel is crushing it when it comes to receiving yards: he's posted at least 104 every time he's taken the field this season. Kellen Bowman was another key player, having thrown for 313 yards and onetouchdown.

South Salem's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for South Medford, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

Coincidentally, South Salem and South Medford will both be playing Grants Pass the next time they take the field. The Saxons will host the Cavemen at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Panthers will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on October 3.
