Makenna Schleman leads North Newton to victory over South Newton

Recap: North Newton Spartans vs. South Newton Rebels

The North Newton Spartans can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They managed a 42-38 victory over South Newton. The victory was just what North Newton needed coming off of a 89-16 defeat in their prior game.

Makenna Schleman continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 22 rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Cheyann Cahill was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five assists and two steals.

Despite the loss, South Newton still got an impressive performance from Addysen Standish, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and ten steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Standish has scored all season.

North Newton's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-16. As for South Newton, they dropped their record down to 1-16 with that loss, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.

North Newton is on the road again on Saturday and plays North White on January 27th. Hopefully North Newton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Thursday. As for South Newton, they will take on Caston at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Caston presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than South Newton in Indiana (Caston is ranked 79th, while South Newton is ranked 404th).
